Google releases Search Options

This week Google made the biggest changes to its search page since Universal Search 2 years ago - Search Options. When you now make a search on Google, the pale blue bar at the top contains a little snippet of text that says "Show options". When you click on it, it opens out into a little menu along the left hand side of the search results screen.

Contiained within the menu are various options that give different aspects of the search results, including the ability to see search resuklts based around videos, forums and review sites. The latter two of these obviously reflects Google's willingness to engage with the commercial side of the web.

The next section of options enables users to view the SERPS by date; you can see the reults from today, the past week and the past year.

Some of the other notable options available through the options tab is the related searches tab (whic gives twenty or so related search options) and the "Wonder Wheel", which is an extension of the related searches option.

Overall I think the Search Options Menu is a pretty useful addition to the SERPS; however it remains to be seen whether the extra options actually get used.
