Google removing paid ads from right hand side of search results

From the 19th of February, Google will stop displaying AdWords ads on the right hand side of its search results. In the graphic below, all ads within the highlighted box will be removed.

Ads will now only appear at the top and bottom of the search results, with the number displayed at the top of the results likely to increase to 4 pushing down organic results further down the page.

It is thought that Google is making this change to make the desktop view consistent with the mobile view of its results.

With more competition for a top position, it’s likely that Google CPC costs will increase.
